Pierre Louis Riche
Biography
Riche was born in Cap Haitien in October 1954. His parents were farmers. He stayed in school until he graduated from high school.
At the age of 20, Riche began to paint He worked with Philome Obin and, at first, only painted historical scenes.
As he continued painting fat people, mostly women, sometimes wearing jewelry and sometimes nudes, began to fill his canvases.
Many people compared his work to Fernando Botero. Riche says that he had never seen any work
by Botero until people pointed out the similarities in their work.
Many galleries in Europe, Latin America, the States, and Japan have a permanent exhibit of his works.
He is appreciated by art collectors around the world who instantly fall in love with
his funny but serious fat people.
He currently lives in Christ-Roi in Port-au-Prince with his wife and his five children.
