Biography

Peintre et sculpteur, Daphné est née le 11 mars 1966 à Port-au-Prince.
Elle a suivi les enseignements d’Arts Graphiques de l’Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale (FL) et d’Arts Plastiques de l’Université du Québec de Montréal. Elle a aussi participe à des stages de moulage et coulage de bronze dans la Creuse et a Hossegor, en France

Influencée tant par l’art naïf que par des artistes comme Dubuffet, Niki de Saint-Phale, Botello, ou encore Fernando Botero, la peinture de Daphné s’exprime par des formes et des couleurs généreuses et contrastées. Son ouverture et sa curiosité d’esprit l’ont vite amenée à mêler les techniques et les matières pour donner aux personnages qui peuplent ses créations un relief et une vie rayonnante. Qu’elles surgissent de l’imagination pure de leur créatrice ou naissent d’événements quotidiens, ses oeuvres attirent toujours leur spectateur dans un univers surprenant et enchanteur. L’artiste sait raviver nos souvenirs d’enfance avec ses bonshommes ronds ou longs, joyeux ou malicieux. Son oeuvre ne laisse jamais indifférent.

Daphné expose en Haiti depuis 1996. Elle a participe au ICA Fair a New York, en 2007. En 2014, avec la Promart Haiti, elle a participe a l’exposition de groupe “Meli Melo”, au Woodrow Wilson Center a Washington DC et au Payne’s Galery a Philadelphie.

She studied Graphic Design at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale (FL) and Plastic Arts at the University of Quebec in Montreal. She also participated in workshops on bronze casting in the Creuse region and Hossegor, France

Influenced by both naive art and by artists such as Dubuffet, Niki de Saint-Phale, Botello, or Fernando Botero Daphne painting is expressed by generous shapes and contrasting colors. Her open mind and curiosity has brought her to mix techniques and materials to give a radiant life to the characters that populate her creations. They arise from her creative imagination or are born of daily events. Her work continue to attract its audience into a surprising and enchanting world. The artist knows how to rekindle childhood memories with her round or long, joyful or malicious fellows. Her work never leaves indifferent.

Daphne has been exhibiting in Haiti since 1996. She participated in the ICA Fair in New York in 2007. In 2014, with Promart Haiti, she participated in the group exhibition “Meli Melo” at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington DC and Payne’s Galery in Philadelphia.
